NMDP Provides Transplant Information

The National Marrow Donor Program offers free educational materials for patients considering or facing a bone marrow transplant, stem cell transplant, or cord blood transplant. They also offer materials for patients who are currently undergoing transplants or have already had a transplant.

At the NMDP's Request Patient Materials page you can obtain any of the following:
The Paths to Progress/Los Pasos Hacia el Progreso: Understanding Blood Stem Cell Transplants
An audio CD, in English and Spanish, with interactive exercises to help patients learn more about the transplant process. Also available in Mandarin.
Discovery to Recovery: A Child's Guide to Bone Marrow Transplant
An interactive DVD and booklet for children ages 5 to 9 who will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant or cord blood transplant.
Decisions. Support. Possibilities. Transplant as an Option When You are 50 and Older
An educational DVD and workbook about treatment choices for patients age 50 and over. Covers medical, financial, and social concerns about transplants, as well as basic information about clinical trials.
Understanding Transplant Outcomes Data
A brochure explaining how to read and understand transplant-related statistics, "outcomes" data, and survival curves. Includes questions to ask the doctor.
Step One: An Introduction to Marrow and Cord Blood Transplant
A booklet covering decisions to be made when considering a transplant. Covers the basics of transplants, NMDP donor searches, questions to ask insurance companies, and information on choosing a transplant center.
Transplant Journey: Step Two
Covers details of the transplant process, answers common questions, and provides checklists to help prepare for a transplant.
Choosing a Transplant Center: A Patient's Guide
A book of facts about NMDP transplant centers in the United States, listing contacts, transplant history, diseases treated, patient selection criteria, match grade criteria, transplant costs, and insurance coverage information.
Mapping the Maze: A Personal Financial Guide to Blood Stem Cell Transplant
A guide to health insurance coverage and financial resources for bone marrow transplants, to help patients develop a financial plan for transplant expenses.
