Best treatment options for conversion to AML

Hi,
A friend has recently converted to AML and we're getting together all the possibilities/options he should be discussing with his haematologist on the 11th. Any suggestions in addition to Vidaza and a PBSCT?
Thanks, Pam W. (MDS, dx February 2000)

Hi Pam. Good to see you around here.

About your friend, what's his age? What were his previous diagnosis and treatments?

Treatment options

Hi Neil,

Probably in his early 60s and was on Thalidomide for years, then switched to Revlimid despite no abnormal chromosomes. We're meeting tomorrow to go over his list.

I need to participate more in Marrowforums - I'm just lazy and found the list easier!

All the best to you and Ruth.

Pam

User Harold P (a couple named Sandy & Pete) had a similar situation after he was diagnosed with secondary MDS. They considered a mini-tranplant (ruled out due to other health problems), watch-and-wait, Vidaza (azacitidine), and Dacogen (decitabine). Unfortunately, they haven't posted recently so we don't know how things turned out. You'll find a few forum threads discussing the choice between Vidaza and Dacogen.

After "what treatment do you recommend and not recommend?" the most important question to ask is "Why?"

Red face Conversion to AML

There is a study currently recruiting combining azacytadine, romiplastim and mylotarg at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute here in Seattle and also elsewhere. Check it out at nih.gov.
