Level for ANC
Hi,
Wanted to know that at what level should the ANC be maintained. I mean someone with ANC below 500 should get the growth factors even if he is having no infection and no fever. Neel

Neupogen and similar drugs
Hi Neel,
The question of the level of neutrophils is under discussion. You can see many patients of this forum that manage with very low neutrophils like 0.1. Other patients - like me - with dysfunctional white blood cells can get neutropenic fever as soon as the neutrophils are 0.5 or lower. In Sweden the doctors don't think that Neupogen and similar drugs will cause AML so if the patient has got a severe infection they will give Neupogen. I have got 2 Neupogen injections/week since Sept 2007. Kind regards Birgitta-A 72 yo, dx MDS Interm-1 2006, transfusion dependent since dx, Thalidomide, Prednisone, Exjade and 2 Neupogen injections/week. No transfusions since Sept 2010. Latest counts HGB 12.7 platelets 112. |
