Splenectomy

Was wondering if anyonewould comment on the pros and cons of a splenectomy.
I'm a 46y/o male who's had MDS. My Hemonc. thinks removal of the spleen would increase p-lets andpossibly other lines.
Any comments?

I don't know if it would buy you that much and it is major sugery. I have read where people have done this and saw very short lived improvement. Unless your spleen is diseased, I would hang on to it. This is just my opinion.

I would need to see some pretty solid statistics on this approach.
