Sealed sunglasses for dry eye syndrome

Hi All,

I was diagnosed with MDS 9.5 years ago and had a successful SCT three months after diagnosis. I had some graft versus host disease after the transplant that the specialists were able to treat with immunosuppressants which I was weaned off of after about 2 years post transplant. The GVHD affected my eyes resulting in dry eye syndrome which I deal with using eye drops. The GVHD flares periodically and I purchased foam lined sunglasses to seal the eye cavity and maintain humidity levels and protect against wind. The sunglasses also were helpful in reducing light glare which can be very discomforting when the GVHD flares.

I have since broken that pair of glasses and cannot remember the company from which I purchased them. My question is - do any of the BMT patients that may be on this board with similar dry eye problems have any recommendations for sealed sunglasses?

Any comments or suggestions are most welcome!

eyeMD Institute 905-456-9500

Contact the eyeMD Institute (284 Queen St.E.) in Brampton. They should be well able to help you out.

Hi, Platelet1!

Congratulations on your successful SCT!

You may have had sunglasses made by Panoptx (new name 7EYE -- see http://www.7eye.com/). I too suffer from dry eyes as a result of GVHD, but it is mostly controlled with over-the-counter eyedrops. Still, I am sensitive to bright light indoors and out. Thanks for reminding me that I should look into getting a pair of these for myself.

Regards,
Ruth

Dry Eye

Hi,

I have suffered severely with dry eyes since my transplant one year ago. I never found those sunglasses with the rubber insert but I found a pair of Prada glasses that are large and curve all the way around and also have extra wide sides. They fit tightly and keep out wind and light that can creep in from the sides. I spent a lot for them but I think there are other brands with the same design. Also a really good optometrist can make them for you. Someone also told me to go to a Harley Davidson shop because motor cycle riders also wear them for wind protection.

Hope this helps
