Bone Marrow Match
Tuesday saw us back to Pauls haemotologist for his three weekly check. Pleasing to say, his WBC and neutrophils continue to show positive results to the growth hormones and he is now sitting well into the normal range. Haemoglobin has had a little response rising from 94 to 105 which the doc was pretty pleased about. He even showed some increase in platelets rising from 24 to 40 - for no explainable reason other than perhaps its because they have managed to stabalise his other two counts.
Received disappointing news from England though - neither of his siblings is a marrow match. For those of you who have found a MUD, did this take very long for the search?

They found two potential matches for my wife within a day of searching the registry. That's just a database search.
It can take weeks however to contact these people, interview them, see if they are willing to donate, test if they are indeed a match, and assess them medically. Some people in the registry move but forget to update their contact information, and that delays things even longer. |
