MUD transplant for Aplastc Anemia

Dear All,
My 24 month old son has been planned for Matched Unrelated Transplant at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. We got donor from USA which 10/10 match.Child is going through regular blood and platelet transfusion for Aplastic Anemia. We have following question in our mind, if possible update me.

1. 10/10 match is as same as sibling match, but with complication. Somewhere I read now a days success rate is almost equal in both the cases.

2. In child case success rate me more than in adult.

3.How many blood and platelet transfusion affect success of transplant. In my case 11 blood and 3 platelet transfusion has been done so far.

4. kindly like my Facebook link for pray to my child.

Transplant

Dear Pramod,

Great that a match has been found. When is the transplant happening? I have heard that CMC Vellore does a large number of transplants and have good experience.

I will follow Arnav's progress on your facebook page. All the best to Arnav & your family.

Pramod and Arnav,

You are correct that a 10/10 match is almost as good as a sibling match. The difference is that a sibling is more likely to match in ways that they don't test for, but that's only a small difference. 10/10 refers to antigen matches that are the key to success. Congratulations on such a good match, thanks to a generous donor somewhere in the U.S.

Children have the highest success rate in transplant success and in beating aplastic anemia.

Transplants are best when the patient has had fewer transfusions. Zero is better than many, but Arnav has had less than a dozen blood transfusions (some patients get many more), so it's probably not going to be an issue.

The best of luck to your whole family!
