Cheri Decker's battle

Friends,
On Friday morning, August 3, 2012, my mother, Cheri Decker, lost her battle with AML/Myelosdysplastic syndrome. Mom spent nearly a week with out receiving any blood or antibiotics and was not in much pain. Any discomfort felt was a result of surgeries that were not related to her disease and she received painkillers to help her. She wanted me to share this information with you, in hopes to give you some insight.
Sincerely,
Drew Decker
(son)

Drew,

I am so sorry to read that your Mom, Cheri, lost her battle with AML/MDS. I had followed her posts since her diagnosis and was hoping she would respond to treatment. May God bless you and comfort you during this difficult time and may your memories of your Mom sustain you in the days ahead.

Drew,

My wife and I offer our condolences as well. We admired your mother's spirit and positive attitude. In the many months we talked to her online she was always friendly and helpful to other patients. It's not a surprise that she asked you to let us know what happened; it's a reminder of how wonderfully generous she was with her time and attention and how she wanted the best for everyone.

Thank you, Drew, for taking the time from your grief to tell us. I'm very sad to see Cheri go, she was such a lovely person and she fought so hard. I've been following her story for a few years now and it's comforting to know she didn't die in pain.

cheri

Hello Drew, I am sorry to hear of Cheri's death. I and others on this forum learned a lot from her and she was an inspiration for us all. I remember some advice she gave that was meaningful to me which was " live life while you are trying to get well". Thanks for sharing this news with us. Tytd

Dear Drew,
I am sorry to hear about your mother. She stands out in my mind as the first
person I read on line and could relate to. She seemed to push the envelope in living life and she helped to pull myself and I'm sure others out of our malaise.

I was lucky to come across her via this forum.

Donna

Cheri

Hi Donna,
Cheri had AML at dx. She started treatment and almost passed due to adverse effects. Then she got MDS and was treated for that disease. She never dared to try strong chemo again.
Kind regards
Birgitta-A
