Your cousin should investigate all possibilities, including:
- medical insurance
- medical charity organizations
- government assistance programs
- support from his employer
- discounted care from the BMT treatment center
- other BMT treatment centers, if he has a choice of where to receive treatment
- organizing your own fundraisers
- his own savings, including retirement savings and assets
Even though the BMT can save his life, spending his family's last rupee or going deeply into debt is the last choice. He should talk frankly about this issue with the treatment center. Even if they can't help reduce costs directly, they should know about other organizations that may be able to help.
I don't know if the
Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation can you give you information that's helpful in Pakistan, or if there's a similar patient advocacy organization there, but the more people you ask the better the chances of finding a group that can help.
Good luck. Please let us know what you learn. The information could help others too.
