Question Need Help Understanding Bone Marrow Biopsy

My last Bone Marrow Biopsy had the following comments in it:

Leu/Lym Chromo Cells Counted: 20
Leu/Lym Chromo Cells Analyzed: 20
Leu/Lym Chromo Cells Karyotyped: 2
Leu/Lym Chromo GTG Band Resolut Achieved: 400

MDS FISH Panel Interpretation:
Deletion of 7q or monosomy 7 is detected in 20.5% of cells

Leu/Lym Chromo Cytogenetic Result
46,XY,del(7)(q22)[3]/46,XY[17]

Leu/Lym Chromo Interpretation
MDS/AML RELATED CLONE DETECTED
Cytogenetic analysis of GTG banded metaphases has revealed a long arm deletion of chromosome 7 in all metaphases examined
_______________

I am confused over the comments in the Results paragraph and the Interpretation paragraph. From my understanding the notation in the Results paragraph would indicate 3 of the cells analyzed had a del(7)(q22) abnormality. However the Interpretation paragraph says there was a long arm deletion in all of the metaphases examined. Can anyone shed some light here?

Thanks

There are a small number of metaphase cells out of all of the cells. My last two reports only showed seven and seventeen metaphase cells examined out of the two hundred cells examined. The cells are in different stages of mitosis and the metaphase stage is but one stage and the easiest to work with the mutations. At least that is what was explained for me.

Hey there, looks like a typo by the geneticist. Based on the cytogenetics, 3 cells were found with a del7q and confirmed by FISH to be in %20 of cells, ask them about it next time you go in.
