Port question.
I was wondering how often I should take my temperature when i have my port accessed and are at home. I’m having to connect and disconnect each day..the needle is staying in for a week. My neutrophils are low but not critical. I got conflicting advice from day care. One nurse said it’s not necessary and one said every 4 hours. The written information says to present to ED if I get a fever but no regime suggested.
Thank you. Carol. |

Hi Carol,
I generally only take my temp if I do not feel well. Then I do take it evey few hours, though my provider told me 4 times daily is enough when not feeling well. My ANC is currently at 60, so definately in critical range. I do it the same whether my port is accessed or not. Do whatever you are comfortable with. You have enough on your plate. If taking your temp more often gives you oeace do it. If it is an annoyance don't. I figure if we have to deal with this disease, we might as well be vomfortable and do what we need to allieviate anxiety.

Thanks Barb. You’re right. I shouldn’t overthink things. If I feel well, then I should just forget it. That should be my barometer with everything.
Very logical and practical. Thanks again. Carol. |
