Question about marrow results.
Question about bone marrow biopsy. Shows mildly hypocellular marrow 50% with maturing trilineagehematopoiesis. I was 36 at time of biopsy. Can anyone explain what it means.
Bone marrow differential count is as follows Myeloblasts ≤ 1% Promyelocytes ≤1% Myelocytes 6% Metarnyelocyts 10% Neutrophils/bands 56% Monocytes 4% Eosinophils 1% Basophiles ≤1% Lymphocytes 11% Plasma cells ≤1% Promo blasts ≤1% Normo blasts 12% History of RCC ten years ago stage one. Increased wbc 14k hematocrit 52% hemoglobin 17.3 Thank you in advance Last edited by Mi!ey12873 : Sat Dec 17, 2016 at 10:52 AM. |

Mi!ey,
I don't have medical training, but I can give you my interpretation of your report. The phrase "maturing trilineage hematopoiesis" is good news. It means that your three blood count lines (myeloblasts that mature into white cells, erythroblasts that mature into red cells, and karyoblasts that mature into platelets) are normal. One rule of thumb for bone marrow cellularity (the percentage of non-fat cells in the marrow) is that it's about 100 minus your age. That's only an approximation, but you'd conclude that 50% is lower than average ("hypocellular") for age 36 but not by a huge amount. Your differential looks normal. Your white count is high, which I think is the only concern with this report. I'm sorry but I don't know what RCC is. |

Mi!ey,
I don't know the answer, or whether it's related to kidney disease. Even though it's only a mild elevation, it's worth asking the doctor about it if you're concerned, especially if your platelet count is out of the normal range. |
