Possible Exjade benefits for MDS patients
From the MDS Beacon...
Exjade May Improve Blood Cell Counts And Reduce Transfusion Needs In MDS Patients by Jessica Langholtz Results from a European study demonstrate that Exjade, a treatment for excess iron, may improve blood cell counts and reduce the need for red blood cell transfusions in myelodysplastic syndromes patients. However, the study investigators point out that further prospective, randomized trials are necessary to confirm these findings. For the rest, see the article at MDS Beacon. |

Not in my case...
Owing to the number of PRBC transfusions, for three years I've been taking Exjade to keep serum ferritin under control. For low-risk MDS it's always the reality that YMMV. I get some of the usual side effects from Exjade, but improvement in Hgb levels is certainly NOT one of them!
I would say that such "studies" have indirect support from Novartis.

Hey Ric,
I would hope The MDS Beacon would only report what they believe to be accurate studies - and it did say "possible" benefits. As with all meds - and especially it seems with treatments for MDS - what may work for one may not work for another. But whatever, I wish you well!
