Transplant at 66 years old
I have aplastic anemia and I am 66 years old. I received a BMT at Seattle Cancer Alliance in Seattle on April 5 of this year. The donor was not a relative and was found via their search process (about 10 weeks).
I have had Aplastic Anemia for three years and have had three ATG procedures. The first one had me transfusion free for 9 months. The other two I had no response. During the three years previous to the BMT I have 110 blood and 120 platelet transfusions. I not only survived the process, I was told I was a poster patient because of the lack of problems during the first 100 days. Last edited by Tom : Thu Aug 30, 2007 at 05:40 PM. |

Tom,
Thanks for sharing that. I am not currently a transplant candidate, but I had written off ever considering it down the road because of the risk. Your story is encouraging. Zoe
