bone marrow biopsy

I had my first bone marrow biopsy after 13 years in remission from AA. I remember BMB's being excruciatingly painful for me before, so I was prepared for that. However, I don't remember it being so painful afterwards. I'm taking Tylenol, but it's not even touching the pain. Am I just a total wimp or is this normal? Sorry, I just don't remember this part. Blah.

The pain patients feel during the procedure varies widely. Some sail through it with minimal discomfort while other need strong pain medication. Patients who tend to suffer during the procedure can try to arrange for conscious sedation, which elminates the pain but requires an anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist.

From what I've heard, being sore afterwards isn't unusual but extended pain like what you describe is less common. I suggest that you phone the doctor's office. Maybe they'll prescribe a stronger painkiller for you over the phone. You shouldn't have to suffer like this.

I had three within about a one month span of time. They all were different experiences. One of them was a breeze while the other two had me hobbling for a while.

Thanks for your replies. Today is definitely better. I can feel a difference with the Tylenol today. I just forgot about this part.

On a side note, I found it interesting that after all this time, she could feel exactly where I had my other biopsies performed. Weird.
