iron stores in bone marrow
In comparing my sons last 2 bone marrow biopsies, his latest one shows that along with being hypocellular the report says that the iron stains are absent for histiocytic stores and no sideroblastic iron.
My understanding is that this is just something that happens when you are dealing with bone marrow failure---is that right? |

I don't know the answer to the iron in the bone marrow but have they checked his serum iron and ferritin levels also?

My understanding is that it can have to do with bone marrow failure. On both my BMB's I had no marrow iron stores, but my blood counts are fine for iron. My CNP told me it was because of the MDS. I don't really understand it, maybe someone else here will.
