Fosomax and Levothyroxin? Culprits????
Hey all! Not sure if this is where I should be posting this but it seemed the most reasonable place. My mother has been diagnosed with auto immune bone marrow failure...well not sure...they are still trying to decide. It's definately auto immune and it's only her platelets that are being affected...they have been as low as 7. She took Fosomax for about 6 years and stopped about a year ago and she has been on levothyroxin for hypo thyroidism for years. I've read some research saying that both of these could cause a problem with platelets. Does anyone know if this is true and if it's possible it could relate to my mom's situation? I appreciate any answers or information that it out there? Thanks so much!

Platelets
Hi Grifmat,
Fosamax can give low platelets but not after one year as far as I understand. Levothyroxin has no hematological adverse effects as far as I can find - it is a very common drug and probably many members of this forum is taking Levothyroxin. They can tell you if they suspect that the drug has decreased the platelet count. Kind regards Birgitta-A |

That's what I thought but you just want to check every avenue. This condition is so frustrating and scary. Thank you for your help.
