skin problems since treatment
I was treated in november of 07 with atg (horse) and things have been really good for the most part since. It took about a year for them to get me off the cyclosporine and my counts to move up but my counts have been in the normal range except for my red blood which was always a little bit low. The only thing that I have noticed is that since the treatment I have had horrible problems with my skin that I never had before. I was allergic to the atg and they had to give it to me at a slower pace over ten days instead of four because I broke out in hives. I just figured for a while that maybe that was the cause. Has anyone else had problems with their skin since being treated with atg? Basically I am getting what I guess are boils constantly. They take forever to go away. I have an appointment with a dermatologist to see if they can do anything about it. I went in and had one surgically removed already. I was just wondering if anyone else has had these problems since treatment and if so if you have any tips for me on how to deal with it. Thank you so much for your help.

Kim, I'm not sure if this is the same kind of thing as you've been experiencing, but was just wondering if you'd seen this old post: http://forums.marrowforums.org/showthread.php?t=230
That was from 2 years ago. I think it was eventually resolved, but I don't remember the details (Grant had a transplant 1 year ago).

yes
I did see that, I haven't had an issue on the scalp mainly my face and other areas of the body. I thought maybe since most of it is on my chin it may not be the same thing since no hair is involved. I have an appointment soon to see a dermatologist. I never had issues like this till the aplastic diagnosis, well after the atg actually so I thought maybe it was related.

Hi, Kim, I also have some sort of skin problem
I got through ATG (horse) in July, luckily I didn't have serum sickness, however in a month after ATG and beginning of cyclosporine therapy, first I noticed some pimples on my face. for about 2 months I was taking vitamines: В12,B6 and folic acid after I stopped taking them tje pimples began to spread over my chest and back. Now I have them all over my face, chest and back, I tried to get rid of them with the help of peelings, moisture my skin every day and even squeeze them out (that is not the right way out). On the face they are mainly subdermic,on chest and back - look like acne or comedones. I asked my doctor and she said that it might be cyclosporine side effect. But offered my nothing against this promlem. Acctually I don't wan't to try any steroid or hormonic lotions. otherwise I do not want have them. Anybody can help? Yuliya |

I ended up going to the Dermatologist
I finally just went and seen a Dermatologist after all the different stuff I tried. They ended up prescribing me an antibiotic for 2 months and some atralin cream for it and it did help signifigantly. Its like id get at least one huge painful boil for like a month on my face usually but it did happen in other places as well and then right as that would heal another would pop up. This had been happening pretty regular since treatment but I figured as much as I was in and out of the hospital after treatment from the aa, perhaps I got some sort of bacterial infection. It was so bad I was getting scars. I can't say that I don't have issues at all but they aren't as severe now and I don't get the scars.

Prograf and skin rash
Hi folks,
I finished my first treatment with ATG (horse) two weeks ago and had many side effects in the hospital and took 6 days and 12 hour infusions to tolerate ATG. I had been on Cyclosporin for a month or two before the ATG but had bad tremor and tingling mouth so doctor changed it to Prograf. It worked great and the tremor stopped within 24 hours but now I have an unexplained red rash over half of my body that hasn't responded to anything. I was on two IV antibiotics but they have now stopped and I still have the rash. Has anyone had any similar reaction. I'd really hate to go back to the Cyclosporin as I couldn't write or operate the mouse on the computer because of the tremor. Also-- I'm completely transfusion dependent now and that's scary. How long have others had to wait to see some increased bone marrow activity after ATG? Thanks so much Fylguy |
