Looking for ideas

As of today (15-Feb-2012) I am 342 days post transplant. Have been pushing the envelope deliberately as far as being in public and with people. Kind of enjoying the disabled / retired (I am 60 yrs old next week.) routine, but am thinking of returning to the work force.

Any suggestions of what to tell prospective employers when they ask "Why did you leave your last employer (I was on an open end contract and left after 4 months to have the transplant) and what have you been doing for the last year?"

Although ti would be nice to get some extra income, I know I wouldn'e get that question in a volunteer situation.

I'm not quite to that point yet, but I wonder the same thing too. I have been browsing jobs, but not actively looking. I figure that in this economy, I better start looking for a job now if I want to go back to work after the first year

I was really lucky that my employer was really understanding and let me take a 6 month leave of absence for my transplant, and then I worked 4 days a week for my first 10 months back.

I don't think you really need to disclose details on your resume/interview - say that you were on medical leave, but stress that it was not a chronic health problem that shouldn't impact your ability to work with them in future.
