Lightbulb Lost figuring out labs

Hello All,

I will get directly to the point and hope someone can make sense of this mess!

In Early March I was dx with type 2 diabetes. Along with all of this testing it was learned my retic count was about 120k at which point I was referred to a hematologist/onco.

Further testing mid March looked like this:

WBC 8.6
ANC 5.8
RBC 2.9
Hgb 7.1
HCT 25.1
RDW 21.8
Iron 18
TIBC 393
UIBC 375
EPO 501
Ferritin 4
Iron Sat % 4.6
Serum Kappa 28.77
Kappa/Lambda 2.39

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10 days later
WBC 11.3
ANC 6.9
RBC 3.25
Hgb 7.5
Hct 26.8
RDW 21.7
Lymph# 3.5
Mono# 0.8
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 week later

WBC 10.2
ANC 7,1
RBC 3.7
Hgb 9.1
Hct 32.4
RDW 24.5

This last set was after a 1 gram Iron infusion.
I do not have celiac and occult blood in stool was negative.
Folate, B12, Calcium are all good.

I am feeling a little better meaning I can breathe now and think (for a while my thinking was very jumbled)

I am trying to get a handle on the retic count, why my ANC and RDW keep going up? Does it look like my immune system is not happy with Iron? I have lost 30 lbs in less than 1 month. I have a long history of anemia but never like this. My concern is what is causing the anemia as the 2 front runners (above) have been ruled out. I have since had another gram of Iron but no labs since then.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated!

Has your doctor given you any type of diagnosis or hint to what s/he's looking for at this point.

Regarding the high retic and RWD, that appears to be a normal response to your anemia.

Not sure about the ANC unless you are fighting an infection.
