RCMD to RAEB-1 - and a CT question

Is that the normal progression of MDS? I noticed my hubbys biopsy report of a year ago showed diagnosis of RCMD, the biopsy report now says RAEB-1. Is that how MDS progresses? His cytogenetics says 47,XY,+8(20), so all his cells show trisomy 8.

Does anyone on the board get CT scans? Would MDS show up on scans as far as how the bones look? While restaging his lymphoma it says "interval development of diffuse heterogeneus appearance of the thoracic osseous structures with multiple lucent foci that is most pronounced in the thoracic spine. Findings are nonspecific buy may represent lymphomatous involvement".

Both his oncologists (his lymphoma one and his MDS one) say that when you have bone marrow disease it can show like that on a ct scan, but they want an MRI to make sure it's not lymphoma. My hubby is refusing the MRI at this point.

So my question is about anyone's experiences with ct scans and MDS? anyone?

I have had CT scans. I would doubt that MDS would show anything on a CT scan. MDS can progress in many directions.

CT scans are a type of X-ray. MRI's use magnetic fields and don't involve radiation. It depends on what is being looked for as to which one is more suitable. See http://hanfordsentinel.com/news/loca...9bb2963f4.html for more detailed information.

I have had both and I didn't find it frightening.

I have had both too just like Cheryl, but for me they were looking at my colon and lungs - but for infections, not MDS. The MRI was easier because there was no drinking the yucky contrast beforehand, but it does take longer and might be disconcerting if he is claustrophobic.
